|There is a tjasker (polder windmill) at 't Olde Maat Uus, a mill of Friesian origin that was used from the Middle Ages onwards. Hundreds of these mills stood all over the WaterReijk Weerribben Wieden area in the 19th century. Its function was to lower the water level in the peat wells where peat was extracted and to regulate the water level in the hayfields and meadows. These days they are often used to irrigate reed-land.
